Find Your Voice. Shape Your World.
At Yorkton Debate Academy, our mission is to empower youth through the art of debate by fostering critical thinking, confident communication, and respectful discourse. We are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where students develop the skills to think independently, speak persuasively, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
The debate season runs September to March.
Debaters practice every Wednesday from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm at the Triple P Learning Centre at SIGN on Broadway (345 Broadway St. W, beside the community fridge).
SEDA determines the debate tournament calendar each season. Debate and Speech tournaments can be in-person or online. Debate and Speech tournaments are held on Saturdays throughout the debate season and run from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. The location of in-person tournaments vary each year; however, the majority of tournaments take place in Saskatoon, Regina, and Swift Current. Online tournaments utilize Zoom and debaters compete from the comfort of their homes.
There are approximately 6-8 debate tournaments per season, and 2 speech tournaments per season. The season ends with a 2 day Provincial Tournament.
During our first year as a community club, Yorkton Debate Academy had much success. Our team earned several medals in the following categories:
Debate: Top Novice Speakers (bronze medals)

Speech: Grade 9/10 Speakers (gold, silver, bronze medals)

Speakers were also invited to compete and represent Saskatchewan at the National Speech Tournament.
