YORKTON DEBATE ACADEMY
YORKTON DEBATE ACADEMY
Find Your Voice. Shape Your World.
Yorkton Debate Academy and SEDA need volunteers throughout the debate season to serve as moderators and judges. Tournaments are held on Saturdays throughout the Debate Season and run from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Judges:
The role of a judge is important to ensure SEDA has a quality tournament. Anyone who is open-minded, thoughtful, and prepared to apply judging criteria (provided by SEDA) can make a good judge. No previous experience necessary as SEDA provides training before each tournament to volunteers regarding the key elements of judging debate or speech.
Moderators:
A moderator is the person who introduces the round of debate, tracks speaking times of each debater for the judges, and brings judge ballots to tournament staff. This is the perfect role for a student who enjoys volunteering and/or is interested in debate. No experience necessary, as SEDA provides volunteers a moderator script to follow.
Hosts:
SEDA's ability to host successful tournaments depends on the generosity of the communities they serve. By volunteering your space, you give debaters from across the province the opportunity to travel to Yorkton and area to compete, and you support the Yorkton Debate Academy and its efforts. SEDA offers supports by handling most logistical and administrative tasks; however, the host has a few responsibilities that help make the tournament possible: booking rooms, assistance booking projectors, and opening doors early on tournament day to enable set up. If you are interested in providing a space to host a Yorkton and area tournament, please contact Coach Sarah Greensides.
